Week of September 27 - October 1

I hope that everyone has had a good weekend.  Here is what to expect for next week.

ENG406-01 - We will be continuing On the Beach.  For those that have not done reader responses on "To Build a Fire" and the "Monkey's Paw", there will be no more chances after this Wednesday, September 29.  (Please remember that ENG 406 is necessary for graduation!)  We will also be starting to work on a rant!  Should be fun...

GEO206-01 - Three page homework assignment is due on Monday, September 27.  Late work will not be accepted.  We will be continuing to study metropolises, with special focus on Montreal, and soon there will be a complex task where you will have to research a different metropolis.  As always, you must bring your workbook and textbook to every class.  There will be a quiz on Thursday, September 30.  It will cover what we've covered so far in unit 1.

POP304-01 - You will be doing a short - 2 minute - oral reflection on your career research so far.  Later this week, I will be checking your POP folders.  In the meantime, you should have plenty of time to continue researching and writing your essays.  Remember that the essay is due on Tuesday, October 5.

LAW802-01 - You will get back your newspaper articles answers on Monday, September 27.  We are going to be examining some cases this week.  You will be assigned a presentation due next month, and there is a test on Friday, October 1, which will cover all notes - board and paper - and articles studied in class.

ENT402-01 - We will be going over some basic Economics on Tuesday, September 28.  We will NOT be going to the lab, so come to 216 and expect to remain there for the duration of the class.  Next Tuesday, October 5 we will have a guest speaker.  Don't forget to continue researching/planning your famous entrepreneur essay...

ETH140-01 - We will be starting the LES I handed out to everyone last class.  By the way, thanks you for your dialogue presentations last week.  They were great!

RES200-01 - As you know, each Resource class will be a mix of English and Math.  You must bring English and Math materials, including a scientific calculator.  If you have certain areas you need individual help with, prepare for it and let me know.

ADV-09 - Terry Fox sheets and money are due Monday, September 27.

Have a great week, and don't forget to see/contact me in advance if you have any questions or problems.

Week of September 20-24

I hope everyone is doing well.  Here is what we'll be doing in class this week, along with information about what is due.  If you have any questions, please see or contact me ASAP!  Take care and have a great week!   Mr. Foster

ENG 406-01:  Well, I have most of your reader responses for "To Build a Fire."  (Which, if you remember, were due last Wednesday.)  If you haven't handed it in yet, please get on it ASAP!  This week we will be preparing our second reader response, a short oral response to "The Monkey's Paw."  Also, we will likely be starting our novel, On The Beach.  If you are behind, get yourself caught up...

GEO 206-01:  I will be collecting your assignment (3 pages) on Monday, September 27 (Day 1), and next week we will be starting our first project.  Make sure you bring your workbook, textbook, and binder to every class.  As is the case with doing homework, assignments, and doing your best in class, not being prepared for class reflects poorly on your attitude to study.  I know you have what it takes to do a good job...

POP 304-01:  Will will be working on our essays this week.  You should be able to do your research and maybe much of your writing in class if you use your time wisely.  The essay will be due on Tuesday, October 5.  On Monday, September 27 (Day 1), I will be meeting with everyone individually for a couple of minutes to get an oral reflection on what you have learned about yourself and careers so far...

LAW 802-02: On Thursday (Day 8) we should be done our basic intro unit to the law, and be moving on to discussing case studies in small groups.  If you did not hand in your homework last Thursday, here are the questions:

1) What is a capital crime?
2) What is a suspended sentence?
3) What country executes the most people each year?
4) What is sharia law?
5) From what we've learned in class about the origins of laws and need for laws, plus what you've read in articles, think of some arguments that people for and against punishments like stoning might make.  You can use examples from the article and think of your own.
6) Are you in favour of capital punishment?  If so, for what crimes?  Also, which method (s) should be used?

All answers should be in full sentences, and your answers for numbers 5) and 6) will require longer answers than the other ones.  Next week there will be a test on what we've learned so far, and you will soon be getting information on your first major assignment.

ENT 402-01: We will be continuing our self-assessment research and starting our first assignment on Wednesday (Day 7).  We will be heading down to 131, but come to 216 first for attendance.  On October 5 (Day 7) we will have a guest speaker...

ETH 140-01: On Wednesday, you will have a little time to fnish preparing your dialogue roleplays before presenting them.  Presentations do not have to be longer than 2 minutes.  Good luck!  You will also be receiving an introduction to your first LES, which will be due in October.  More details to come...

RES 200-01: Make sure that you keep bringing English and Math binders and work - including calculators - to class.  If you have individual problems, I can help you with them, but there will always be work for you to do if you do not ask me for individual Math or English help.

September 13, 2010 Homework/Class Update

Hi Everyone!  Well, everyone has received class outlines for all of my classes.  Here is a little of what we are doing and have coming up soon in my classes.

ENG406-01: Reader response for "To Build A Fire" is due Wednesday.  This week we'll be starting notations, a new short story, and continuing with silent reading

GEO206-01: We now have the textbook and workbook, and by the end of this week we will have covered up to around page 10 in the textbook and page 4 or 5 in the workbook.  If you haven't handed in both review map assignments from August 30 and September 2, please do so quickly.  There will be another assignment sheet handed out tomorrow, so make sure you don't fall behind.

LAW802-01: We're still in the intro stages of the law, so we'll continue mainly with notes and current event legal issues articles for now.  On Tuesday morning, you will be expected to meet in groups and discuss the article about stoning in Iran.  Expect a short group presentation next week...

ENT402-02: This week (Day 2) and next week (Day 7) we will be continuing self-assessment on our entrepreneurial potential.  We will be heading to the computer lab, but please come to class first for attendance.

ETH140-01: We will continue to examine moral dilemmas, individually, in pairs, in groups, and as a larger class group.  LES#1 will start next week (Next Day 7).

POP304: We will be wrapping up our first careercruising.com activity, making sure journal entries are coming along alright, checking folders, and, on Thursday (Day 3), giving a short oral report on what you've learned about yourself in class so far...

RES200-01: Remember to bring your Math and English work to each class.  This is required, plus it will help you to improve.

ADV-09: Target setting this week.  Think seriously about mark, attitude to study, and attendance targets for each of your classes.

If you have any questions, or you are not sure about something, please see me.  See you in class and take care of yourselves.

Mr. Foster
